Governor Mills Orders Delayed Start for State Offices in Six Counties on Friday

State of Maine Offices in Aroostook, Hancock, Washington, Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Somerset Counties to open at 11:00 a.m.

With snow and sleet expected to make for a messy morning commute, Governor Janet Mills has directed State of Maine offices in Aroostook, Washington, Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Somerset Counties to open at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026.

"Spring is here, but the winter weather isn't done with us yet," said Governor Janet Mills. "Maine people in these counties should expect challenging conditions on the roads, and I encourage them to take precautions and give our hardworking road crews and first responders the room they need to keep our communities safe."

Snow, sleet, and ice accumulation are expected across parts of the region overnight and into Friday morning, creating slippery road conditions, reduced visibility, and hazardous travel during the morning commute. At this hour, the National Weather Service has placed each of the six counties under a Winter Weather Advisory. A separate Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Northern Aroostook County.

The Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is closely coordinating with the Maine Department of Transportation, Maine's electric utilities, and local emergency management partners to monitor the storm and keep people safe.
